The mission of the Platte Valley Literacy Association is to empower students to reach their educational goals.

We have been proudly serving the Columbus, Nebraska, area for several decades as a United Way Agency.

The PVLA evolved from a group of volunteer tutors in the early 1980s, and we were incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 1990. As the years have gone by, the PVLA has adapted in order to offer valuable services that address the current needs of community members.

The PVLA provides a variety of literacy programs and employment skills training to adult learners. Whether students are looking to improve their English-speaking skills, prepare for the Citizenship test, or apply for a better paying job, we offer classes that help them achieve their goals.

Our students range in age from 16 to 99, and many of them have immigrated from places all over the world. From Cuba to the Congo to Guatemala to Mexico to those born and raised right here in Columbus, the PVLA serves a diverse student population and provides them with the skills they need to be successful in life.
